Material for People with Print Disabilities

As part of our commitment to ensure equitable access to library resources to everyone, the Chinook Regional Library provides assistive services in the form of:

  • Large Print Fiction and Non-Fiction Books
  • DAISY Books
    DAISY Books are digital talking books available for people with print disabilities. They can be played on a DAISY Player or MP3 enabled CD players. If you are interested in a comprehensive list of the available titles, please email
  • Descriptive DVDs
    Descriptive DVDs are movies that provide an audio descriptive video service which describes the visual elements, such as action, settings, costumes, characters, and expressions, for people who are blind or visually impaired.
  • CELA and NNELS
    The Chinook Regional Library offers access to the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA) and the National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS), which offer a broad range of titles in a variety of formats, such as Daisy CDs and downloadable DAISY files, Braille books, electronic braille resources, described videos, audiobooks, PDFs, and more.

If you have difficulty reading due to vision loss and/or cognitive disability (like dyslexia), or have physical difficulty holding a book or turning pages, you are eligible to access library materials restricted to people with print disabilities. To access print disability materials, please fill and sign the Print Disability Declaration Form and return it to your local Chinook Library Branch or contact your local librarian for assistance.

Below, Library Patrons will find the links to SILS forms which allow a patron to declare, either through self-declaration, a compentent authority, or an institution, that they have print-disabilities. We encourage any patrons who have any form of print difficulties to read and sign these forms, and to return them to their local Chinook Library Branch.
